The Challenge:

Enhancing an Industrial Landscape

Gateway 36 Phase 2A in Barnsley is a key development within the Sheffield City Region, transforming a site with a rich industrial heritage into a modern logistics and industrial hub.

Spearheaded by Caddick Construction for Eos Inc Ltd, part of the Harworth Group Plc, this £9.3 million project involved the creation of three Grade-A steel-framed speculative industrial units with significant sustainability goals.

The challenge for Atlas Green was to deliver a landscaping solution that enhanced the aesthetic and functional appeal of the site, while supporting its ecological and environmental objectives.

The Approach:

Comprehensive Landscaping Solutions

Atlas Green was tasked with implementing a robust landscaping plan that aligned with the high standards of sustainability and functionality required by the project.

This involved extensive site preparation and strategic planting to create a green, inviting environment that complemented the industrial setting.

Technical Excellence and Collaboration

Our collaboration with Caddick Construction was pivotal to the success of the landscaping project.

We worked closely to ensure that our landscaping efforts were in sync with the construction timeline and specifications. High-quality materials and advanced horticultural techniques were employed to ensure the longevity and vibrancy of the landscape.

The Transformation:

A Sustainable Industrial Hub

The completed Gateway 36 Phase 2A project now stands as a benchmark for sustainable industrial development.

The integration of functional design with ecological considerations has transformed the site into a green, sustainable industrial hub.

The landscaping not only enhances the visual appeal of the development but also supports biodiversity and environmental health.

Atlas Green’s role in the Gateway 36 project exemplifies our commitment to creating sustainable, community-focused landscapes that balance aesthetic appeal with environmental stewardship.

Innovative Landscaping Solutions

Our landscaping approach at Gateway 36 Phase 2A included several key elements:

  • Topsoil Importation and Preparation: We imported 5000 tonnes of topsoil, which was graded and levelled to provide a fertile foundation for all plantings.
  • Ornamental Shrub Planting: A diverse array of ornamental shrubs were planted to enhance the visual appeal and provide seasonal colour and interest.
  • Native Hedge Planting: Native hedges were introduced to promote biodiversity and create natural habitats for local wildlife.
  • Semi-Mature Tree Planting: The planting of semi-mature trees provided immediate visual impact and environmental benefits such as shade and improved air quality.
  • Amenity Seeding: The site was seeded with amenity grasses to create green, open spaces that improve the overall landscape and usability of the area.
